PLAYER EVENT: GENESSIA CARNIVAL

The week of the carnival has arrived! With the combined effort of paid workers, volunteers, Azura, and those Azura decided were going to help her (Looking at you Fam), the setup has gone without a hitch. Those who come by the large park in Genessia City during the morning and afternoon of the 16th will see the carnival in various stages of completion. It isn't the sun starts to set and the sky begins to burn the colors of pink and orange with a topping of blue that the lights on the carnival tents and other structures come to life. THE CARNIVAL IS ON. It's clear that the carnival takes up almost all of the park; it's setup done so that the rides, attractions, booths and other assorted portions of the carnival are setup around ponds and lakes and take advantage of paths in the park. At the entrance are a myriad of food stalls, while the bigger rides are further in the back. In between are smaller attractions like games, but more importantly this is where all of the booths for the residents are set up. Several rows deep, the offerings here are wildly different and each engaging in its own way. Lastly, the larger attractions of the Carnival are organized in the large central portion of the carnival where a large area has been cleared and sectioned off in 4 large rectangles to house each with plenty of room. [ Andrea shrugs, watching and waving goodbye to the children as they go to another booth with their guardians. ]
So you uh, got one of these?
[ Andrea takes her necklace, showing the color of coming from a futuristic world ]
no subject
[ ”It’s a free country” sounds way too familiar for Konoka to dismiss out of hand, but she can’t quite place where it comes from. Instead, she files it in the back of her mind and answers the more important question, by lifting her necklace and showing how it comes from a fantasy world. ]
Yeah I do.
[ It makes Konoka think of something, so she takes a chance with it. ]
Are you new around here?
no subject
[ Andrea places her hands on her hips, nodding to go along with her confirmation ]
Got here just three days ago. Lucky enough to find someone to welcome me to their place, but still pretty much on my own.
no subject
[ Fortunately, it didn't seem like many people struggled for employment. ]
So what's your name? I'm Konoka Konoe. [ She's fortunately very used to western order naming at this point. ] I run a little charm shop in Fayren, and I'm a deputy healer over there too.
no subject
[ Andrea waves her hand, still salty about it. ]
I'm Andrea. But you can call me Andy.
[ She said, extending a hand for a handshake ]
So. Charm shop, huh? Looks like you and me would be working in the same city, deputy.
no subject
Oh, you're employed already? It took me a few weeks to get going when I first got here.
[ Konoka was used to bowing, but she does manage to extend her hand and remember to shake. ]
What's your job here?
no subject
Yeah, it's crazy easy to get a job here. It's almost too good to be true! That employment center works super efficiently.
[ Andrea nods ]
But I'll be starting once this carnival is over, at Under The Sun Retrievals? I applied to be a hunter, so that oughta be entertaining. I heard creatures like dragons exist in that place.
no subject
Oh, that's nice! Be mindful though, not all of the dragons are dangerous! I know at least one big one who's also a deputy, and just the other day, I had to guide a little girl dragon to the forest.
Hmmm... I guess a good rule of thumb is that if they can talk to you AND they're not trying to eat you, then they're not bad...?
no subject
[ Andrea nods ]
Pretty weird to have dragons that talk though. That's another thing to get used to. But you sound so accustomed to this weirdness, how long you been in?
no subject
[ It isn't like Konoka is particularly weirded out by many things. She's been to alternate dimensions even back when she could go home. ]
no subject
[ Andrea cringes at the thought of being here for that long, groaning and glancing away in obvious discomfort ]
Oh man, I could do a shit ton of things back in my world for that long. That thing they said about time not moving back home is a little too hard to believe. Sounds way too convenient...
[ She shakes her head and sighing, moving out of the way and gesturing toward the direction where people are walking ]
Let's move outta the way, we look like jerks standing there and blocking the booths.
no subject
[ It's Konoka's only real answer, and it's a little hard to say much to someone realizing just how long they can be in here for. Konoka's heard of people being around for twice that.
She begins to stroll away alongside Andy, easily following her suggestion to move away from the booths. ]
There are actually a few things comforting about that... [ Konoka's smile fades slightly for a second before she waves it away. ] but that's a subject for another day. You find anything else good here aside from easy prizes? The cotton candy's well made.
no subject
Tried some. Ehhh, they're okay. Burgers are decent, but nothin' to write home about...
[ She speaks, putting her arms up and hands together behind her head. She's yet to try Ayame's booth, but she already ate ]
'bout you?
no subject
The rides are simple, but I like 'em! The ferris wheel has a view to die for! Or live for, if you'd rather.
[ Konoka talks animatedly about the carnival's different rides. ]
Even the Tunnel of Love being simple is great. You can find so many cute couples over there!
no subject
no subject
Sure, we can go!
[ Konoka might have been on it already, but going on it with another person sounded much more fun, even if they were just strangers getting to know each other. They took their time walking over. ]
You mentioned having a dog earlier. How is he handling all this?
no subject
[ She laughs, amused at her dog's innocence ]
He's only two weeks old, and actually just recently got him from a neighbor of mine back home in Texas. Jimi's the runt of the litter, and I wanted a dog I could bring with me at the base to help pass the time and keep myself sane from all that training exercises day in day out!
no subject
[ Texas… yes, this girl comes from America! It took her a while to make the connection. She’ll ask about it a bit later though. Instead, she wanted to talk more about the dog. ]
Awww, that’s so cute! I’d love to see him at some point!
[ They arrive at their destination, and it seems that the wait isn’t too long. ]
I’ve got pets at home. They’re a handful! They’re a bit more… fantastical that cute doggies though!
no subject
You probably will see him, he's big on the outdoors like mama.
[ Figurative mama, like how a lot of pet owners love to see themselves as. But Andrea shoots Konoka a look of skeptical curiosity, with a "wait hold up" hand gesture to go with it ]
What do you mean "fantastical" exactly?
no subject
Oh, I don't mean home home, but here in Genessia I have creatures called Pokemon. You might have seen a few odd looking animals tag along with people. They seem to like guarding my store during days off.
no subject
[ Her mind immediately went to poke, the Hawaiian dish. ]
Oh yeah, I've seen one of those already. In Hangar Queen. Looks like a sheep, it's really cute. I'm guessing they're native animals of this place?
no subject
[ She grinned.
It's finally their turn on the Ferris Wheel! Konoka opens it up, steps inside, and will help Andy in if she needs it. ]
Just like I thought. Gosh it's so much better to ride these things with other people.
Made a mistake earlier. Jimi was 8 weeks old not 2.
I know, right? It's one of those things that feel suuuper awkward to do alone. Like going to the movies alone.
no subject
[ And for a while, they simply chill on the ride, despite its tight quarters... or at least Konoka does. It's only when they're close to the top that Konoka speaks again. ]
Isn't the view nice up here?
[ Seeing the whole Carnival, and Genessia itself, is a wonder to behold. ]
no subject
[ Andrea looks out the window of the ride as they ascend, watching the lights of bright colors beneath them. The sounds of the carnival were muffled in the car, and more so from above. Andrea smiles, feeling herself reminded of her childhood. Andrea notices something peculiar that got her brows to quirk and finger to point down at something ]
Whoa! Oh look, those two are makin' out!
