OPEN LOG; EVERGLADE, GENESSIA - do not reply until you read the ooc post
The first sign that something was going on that day hadn't been at the crack. It hadn't even been in Genessia, as a matter of fact. The first sign had been a sound not unlike a window shuddering in a heavy storm. It perforated the atmosphere within Everglade first.
Only a few moments later, Fayren would hear the same shudder echo through its forests, forcing birds to flee the cover of the trees. In the populated areas of the kingdom itself, it would be much quieter, as if it were miles away.
Then it would return to Genessia. The crack in the sky was rapidly saturated, thousands more than before forcing their whole shapeless bodies against the barrier. Some of the strange aurora-tinted color seems to press into their ranks, a few of the strange creatures being forced back, but quickly being replaced by another of its kind.
And a sickening crack could be heard in all archways near and far, but it was loudest in Everglade, where a new crack had formed. Two humongous cracks appeared in Everglade's barrier like a sinister grin as if it were laughing at the town just above the clocktower. The two cracks took only a couple of seconds more before the strange monstrous creatures burst small holes into that crack, not big enough to fit their bodies through at once.
The leaked through, dripping like poison from an apple out of that sneering mouth in the sky until the first of these creatures fell to the ground. The eager, hungry soul from before, whose abyss of a stomach had been shared with the whole of Genessia when he'd opened his misshapen jaw the first time a few days ago now looked from side to side in the streets of Everglade.
The first face he saw was that of an NPC, and he only saw it for a moment before launching himself at the man and pinning him to the ground. Some would recognize him as the grizzled owner of The Rabbit's Foot. A loud scream was put out from the man as the creature opened its jaw wide, but did not eat him. Nothing seemed to happen when his jaw was opened, as a matter of fact.
The creature closed its mouth slowly before standing upright on what seemed to be a two-legged form, though if it had arms they didn't take shape. It made a gesture as if it were cracking its neck as the man escaped quickly, locking the door to his shop behind him.
More of the creatures were piling into Everglade slowly but surely, but this one in particular caught sight of a local werewolf, someone with a pendant, a soul, and repeated his mauling, but this time- this time something happened. This time a strange, glowing mist seemed to pull out of the Everglade resident's body, a faint glimmer of aurora with it, and in a short time this person stopped screaming. They were still alive, but it didn't seem like there was anything... inside, really.
A hissing, victorious laughter left the creature and he moved on, heading toward Genessia's gate along with his oversized mouth pulled up into an eerie grin that reflected the crack in the sky. Those that had made it in through Everglade's crack followed suit.
They had to let the rest of their friends in through Genessia; it was only the polite thing to do.

Slowing opening the door, Anastasia first listened for any sounds. No footsteps, moaning, groaning, roaring or anything that she would consider a threat. Getting up on her feet, she moved down the hall of the home as quietly as possible to the front door.
She reached for the locks of the door and purposely caused them to make noise as they are unlocked as a way to signal the woman outside that someone was here and was letting her in.
With the door completely unlocked, Anastasia turned to retreat back to the closet in case this was a trap. But in her haste, her foot caught her ankle and tripped, falling with a surprised shriek and hitting the floor with a distinct thud. If anything hostile lurked about, that probably would've attracted it.]

If you're going to open the door and hide, you really should watch where you're walking.
[ The light clack of Weiss's heels was clear on the floors of the building. She wasn't the stealthiest person around and she rarely made attempts to be. ]
I'm not here to hurt you. [ It might help that Weiss's face was well known- basically everyone saw it upon first arriving since she handled the hologram at the Bay. ] Is there anyone else here?
no subject
"Oh... No. Everyone else got out already."
[And familiar she was indeed. Once Anastasia realized who this was after admiring her pretty outfit, her eyes lit up and suddenly didn't feel quite as frightened.]
"Oh! You are... You are that fairy girl spirit from the Bay area. You have come to save me?"
[Anastasia leans to the side, trying to look past Weiss and out the door for trouble, but really, the way her eyes glanced at the young woman, it was apparent she was looking for wings. Holograms are not even a thought on her world, so it was only natural for her age to show at this moment.]
wow yeah apparently this just never got to my inbox, I don't even remember reading it..
I'm not a fairy or a spirit. That was a hologram, and I'll explain it when we're not in danger of getting mauled.
[ Weiss was used to being asked about the hologram by now. She knew it caused troubles with people who weren't as technologically apt as some of Genessia's residents, but it was better than leaving it in writing in a language that some people potentially couldn't read. ]
Sounds like my house. E-mails going up/downstairs get lost in the Void.
"You... You are right. We should leave immediately. But first..." [Anastasia looks down the hall behind her for a moment before returning her attention to Weiss.] "May we collect some provisions? Water, to be exact... My people get sick easily when we get hot, so I beg for your understanding."
It might be my phone. Sometimes it resurrects 20 threads from the grave at once and kills new ones
How much water do you need and how are you planning on travelling with it?
[ Weiss knew that using her Dust would probably be a little much if it came to keeping her cool, but she'd rather not have to deal with travelling with a sick child. ]
Darn technology. (/)_<)
"W-Well, umm... I've seen other kids wearing bags on their backs. I-If we can find such a bag, w-we can fill it with some water bottles... So, I'm guessing I would then need about half a bottle an hour...?"
[She knew she was asking a lot. Probably. She may need more, or less. She doesn't know for sure. She just knows that she may have to admit to what she really intends to do with so much water.]
no subject
[ She looks a little perplexed at that. ] You'll be fine for the trip to Nova City. It isn't that far and we're absolutely not stopping for a bathroom break.
no subject
"It's, um... not for drinking, really... It's...it's for...pouring on my head..."
no subject
[ Weiss repeated the words, having no sense that she should keep them quiet. It wasn't like there was anyone else around and she sounded more disbelieving than anything.
After a couple of seconds her expression went from disbelief to slight resignation. She'd promised not to try to judge people by their species, hadn't she? Whatever species this person was that they needed to dump water on their head. ]
So are you some kind of... Fish Faunus or some cross-universe equivalent? Which is completely fine if you are as long as you're still a good person.
no subject
She took a moment to think of an explanation that was short and sweet.]
"W-Well, no... My people evolved and adapted to a land of perpetual winter. We can't swim or tolerate hot weather. Other nations jokingly call us 'Snow People."
[Scientifically speaking, she's an off-shoot of a human. But after a moment, she realized she hadn't introduced herself, and after that explanation, she couldn't let her rescuer go around calling her "Snow-girl."]
"However, I prefer to go by Anastasia. It is a pleasure to meet you."
no subject
Weiss didn't seem particularly phased by that. After getting to know a lot of people here, different temperature adaptations had become very obvious when certain people she knew had to cover up like they were going to trek through a snowfield just for mild winter weather. The cold didn't bother Weiss at all, but that's because she was surrounded by it frequently.
"Let's find you some water and get out of here, Anastasia."
no subject
Once the time had come to leave, she nodded to Weiss and moved to the closet she had been hiding in to look for a backpack. She soon found and took a plain bag. She would've preferred a cute one, but she couldn't afford to be picky right now.
She started down the hall for a few steps before turning back to Weiss.]
"We may find some water in the dining hall."
no subject
Dining room, maybe. But Weiss is definitely used to bigger, more expensive things. Even in the little dorms at Beacon, the dining hall itself was huge. This place was clearly some kind of renovated house that would.. probably be in need of additional renovations after this ordeal was over.
Nevertheless, Weiss took Anastasia's lead, reading to jump into action in case anything attacked the two of them. However, a question came upon her.
"Exactly how are you planning on carrying all this water? You hardly look like you're ready to carry a gallon of liquid even with a backpack."
Weiss can you even talk? You're so tiny.no subject
Anastasia took a quick peek around a corner that lead directly towards the kitchen and dining areas before pulling back to answer Weiss's question.]
"How much is a gallon? Is that a lot?"
no subject
It was some intense decimal, but she was rounding. She may be very intelligent, but she's much more practical than to give a uselessly precise answer when it's not needed. Weiss peeked around a corner, slowly opening a couple of doors and checking the rooms to make sure they weren't going to get attacked from behind once they passed the doors.
no subject
"I think I can carry that much."
[Once Weiss started to check the nearby rooms, Anastasia went quiet and kept her distance so Weiss has room to maneuver. While her knight in frilly combat skirt checked, Anastasia would look behind herself occasionally and watched Weiss's back in case she missed anything.]
no subject
Not that there wasn't a little one right now. "What are you doing?" Head to the kitchen. If there's anything here, I can get to it if it's ahead of me, it's being sneaked up on and wasting time until something finds us that I'm wary of."
no subject
"R-right, I'm sorry!"
[Anastasia carefully made her way into the kitchen and started checking cupboards she could reach for any bottles of water. She finally found a small jackpot in a cupboard at the far end.
She sat on her knees and started loading the backpack with water bottles, one bottle at a time. She moved a little slow and as quiet as she could so she can try to listen for anything that might try to sneak up on her.
However, due to her divided attention, she failed to realize she was slowly overloading.]
no subject
After Weiss had finished clearing the area, she walked into the room with Anastasia in it and her face immediately dropped, her eyes half-narrowed as she stared at the bag of water bottles. Unless this girl had superpowers or was a well-trained warrior, she wasn't going to be able to reasonably carry that and be able to move quickly if Weiss needed her to. Weiss was guessing neither of those was the case since she was cooped up and hiding in this house.
no subject
Upon Weiss's question, Anastasia looked at her bag, then back to Weiss."
"It's... Not that bad. Really."
[Anastasia is not that sure. She got to her feet and attempted to lift the bag with one hand. Nope. She then attempted to lift it with both hands. Just a smidgen off the ground but she dropped it in a second.]
"I-I'm sorry! Please don't go and leave me here!"
[She got back to her knees and quickly started to put the water bottles back until she had six left.]
no subject
It probably wasn't the best way she could've said that, nor the nicest, but it got the point across. She waited for Anastasia to finish packing up, then started heading toward the back door.
"Come on."
no subject
"Okay. I'm ready to go."
no subject
no subject
Pouring water on herself seems to be working for her. Not as well as when she submerged herself in the Bay when she first arrived, but it's definitely protecting her from the downside of her heritage.
Once it looked like they had a clear path ahead, Anastasia picked up the pace to match Weiss and walk beside her.]
"Miss Weiss? When all of this is over, will I ever get to see you again?"
