OPEN LOG; EVERGLADE, GENESSIA - do not reply until you read the ooc post

The first sign that something was going on that day hadn't been at the crack. It hadn't even been in Genessia, as a matter of fact. The first sign had been a sound not unlike a window shuddering in a heavy storm. It perforated the atmosphere within Everglade first.

Only a few moments later, Fayren would hear the same shudder echo through its forests, forcing birds to flee the cover of the trees. In the populated areas of the kingdom itself, it would be much quieter, as if it were miles away.

Then it would return to Genessia. The crack in the sky was rapidly saturated, thousands more than before forcing their whole shapeless bodies against the barrier. Some of the strange aurora-tinted color seems to press into their ranks, a few of the strange creatures being forced back, but quickly being replaced by another of its kind.

And a sickening crack could be heard in all archways near and far, but it was loudest in Everglade, where a new crack had formed. Two humongous cracks appeared in Everglade's barrier like a sinister grin as if it were laughing at the town just above the clocktower. The two cracks took only a couple of seconds more before the strange monstrous creatures burst small holes into that crack, not big enough to fit their bodies through at once.

The leaked through, dripping like poison from an apple out of that sneering mouth in the sky until the first of these creatures fell to the ground. The eager, hungry soul from before, whose abyss of a stomach had been shared with the whole of Genessia when he'd opened his misshapen jaw the first time a few days ago now looked from side to side in the streets of Everglade.

The first face he saw was that of an NPC, and he only saw it for a moment before launching himself at the man and pinning him to the ground. Some would recognize him as the grizzled owner of The Rabbit's Foot. A loud scream was put out from the man as the creature opened its jaw wide, but did not eat him. Nothing seemed to happen when his jaw was opened, as a matter of fact.

The creature closed its mouth slowly before standing upright on what seemed to be a two-legged form, though if it had arms they didn't take shape. It made a gesture as if it were cracking its neck as the man escaped quickly, locking the door to his shop behind him.

More of the creatures were piling into Everglade slowly but surely, but this one in particular caught sight of a local werewolf, someone with a pendant, a soul, and repeated his mauling, but this time- this time something happened. This time a strange, glowing mist seemed to pull out of the Everglade resident's body, a faint glimmer of aurora with it, and in a short time this person stopped screaming. They were still alive, but it didn't seem like there was anything... inside, really.

A hissing, victorious laughter left the creature and he moved on, heading toward Genessia's gate along with his oversized mouth pulled up into an eerie grin that reflected the crack in the sky. Those that had made it in through Everglade's crack followed suit.

They had to let the rest of their friends in through Genessia; it was only the polite thing to do.

[ Hit-And-Run was definitely the best option for that battle. Even though she knew Natsu would probably have preferred something a little less 'run away', given the situation, they didn't have a lot of time to waste on fighting that creep. Whatever injuries they may have gotten, Lucy barely noticed them, thanks to Genessia's spirit bond. In any case, once they ducked out of Everglade, the pair beat feet to the Bay with both the Genessia and Everglade spirits, where she glanced at Natsu. ]

Okay, we've made it to the Bay... now what?

[ How does the spirit heal here? ]

[Hit and run was very far from Natsu's style. Still Lucy was the best one to yank his leash onto that route and conveniently enough she was there with him. So while he would have loved to reduce Vlad's pasty ass to a pile of ash, he had bolted with Lucy the moment the opening presented itself.]

Whatever it is hope it's quick. I can't smell his stench but you never know what he might try next.

[ Genessia's spirit is the one to give the instructions. Everglade is focusing on maintaining the barrier weakly, the effort clearly taking up most of its energy. The best thing to do to heal Everglade would be to put it into the waters. The waters in the Bay have special properties not found anywhere else in Genessia. ]

Right.

[ Lucy glanced over her shoulder briefly, before returning her attention to Natsu. ]

So we put it in the waters right... here goes.

[ Stepping forward, she knelt to carefully lower Everglade's spirit into the water's of the Bay. ]

The water huh? Okay then I'll keep watch while you two take care of that. SOunds like something you'd be better suited for, Lucy.

[And with that he starts scanning the surroundings.]

It only takes a few minutes. The water seems to turn a blue color similar to Genessia's spirit, little blue auroras rippling through the water, breaking around Lucy and Natsu's bodies and rippling in another direction. Everglade's spirit seemed intent on not staying in for longer than it needed to, hovering up once it was steadily glowing a more vibrant shade of blue. Its warmth pulsed out as it rose from the water and Genessia's spirit called to Natsu to bring him back, indicating that Lucy may need support as it was time to separate from her before it became too much of a burden. Everglade would wait until they were both there to tell them, wanting to make sure the message got out to as many as possible just in case.

[ Lucy grinned as Natsu kept an eye out; she'd been thinking the same thing honestly. Focusing her attention back on the spirits, she watched as Everglade's spirit slowly recovered it's strength. That's much better. ]

Phew... I'm so glad we were in time to keep Vlad from doing what he wanted. [ If he tried pulling something like that on their turf, even if it was the fakey Fairy Tail building, he would have gotten worse than simply being chased off. ]

[Natsu took his guard duty very seriously his senses on guard to their peak as Lucy dealt with the spirits. After all she was the one best suited for that kind mediating.]

He talked such a big game but couldn't back it up. Bet I could've burnt him to ash if we didn't have to chase him off.

[ Genessia's spirit would have just called him back regardless, even if he posed a danger. That was, after all, its job. At full strength, Vlad would have had a much more difficult time cornering Everglade.

Everglade hovered slowly between Natsu and Lucy's locations, asking Genessia to stay within Lucy until the instructions were given so that she can pay full attention. After that, it made sure that both Lucy and Natsu knew that the only way to repair the barrier was to clear the spirits away from it. The spirits themselves craved something that they had long since been stripped of: emotion. Normally, the barrier itself would hide any emotional signatures from the outside and keep those within it safe, but every once in a while something significant happens. Many times, the significant disturbance is the death of a resident or the creation of new lands within Genessia's barriers and it is able to be compensated by offering a sacrifice-- something to throw away so that the hollowed spirits would go after it instead of the feast waiting within the barrier.

With how enveloped both cracks are, one sacrifice will not be enough. No less than 7 would be needed to stave off this many empty spirits. We would never take from you without permission, so you will need to find those willing to offer up what's necessary to save us all and take them to the Cloister of Trials in Fayren. Should they pass the trial, they will find Fayren's spirit and be granted both answers and an opportunity to give their sacrifice.

Easily. I mean you did practically melt half of the arena that one time. He probably knew he wouldn't win against you - that's why he avoided fighting you directly.

[ And mostly used his minions or cheap schoolbook tactics. She turned her attention to Everglade's spirit then, the faint smile at seeing it doing better fading when she heard what was going to be necessary to repair the barriers. ]

New lands within Genessia's barriers... you mean all those subarchways, don't you. [ Well that's just super. And she and Natsu had to find 7 people to give up more of themselves just to make them go away? Like throwing meat to a hungry animal. She glanced at Natsu for a few minutes. ]

... we really ...don't have a choice, do we...

[ She didn't like the idea, but it was better than letting the spirits in. ~~And if Vlad hadn't screwed around, they wouldn't even need seven people.~~ Dangit. ]

Yeah I guess. Can't shake the feeling that won't be the last we've seen of him though.

[And that is not a comforting thought whatsoever. At least a lot of people learned of his involvement so his movements might be a little impeded. Learning of sacrifices being required certainly didn't help improve the atmosphere any more. Lucy asked the question he was going to though so he just waited for the answer.]

Yes, the subarchways. Creating those without attracting the attention of the empty spirits was not easy, which is why such a steep price was always asked. If there were any other way, it would have been done already. The point of this place is not to make its residents suffer.

With that, Genessia's spirit leaves Lucy's body. The information is given and received. Everglade's spirit hovers near Genessia's for a moment before Genessia's lets out a little light, making Everglade glow a little brighter.

[ Maybe if they get all the pendants they can wish there to be an alternative to sacrificing memories or powers. At any rate that would be reason enough for her to look into something like that. Or maybe they could wish for those empty spirits to have their own emotions - they wouldn't go after other people's then right? Oh well, that would be far off, whatever their wish would turn out to be.

More importantly, the adrenaline no longer being a thing, Lucy feels ...in a word; drained. With Natsu close by, she put an arm out to support herself against him, dizzy for a moment. ]

We'll spread the word. You'll get your volunteers.

[He quickly steadies Lucy and a flame of alarm starts burning in Natsu's mind as he looks as his suddenly dazed partner.]

H-Hey Lucy!? What's wrong?!

The spirits would go prepare to close the barrier then, as soon as the path was cleared. They make sure that Natsu and Lucy know they are grateful and will be presented with charms.

Genessia's implores Natsu to take care of Lucy, who is likely drained from her possession by it. She will need lots of rest.

Then, the two spirits seem to fade into the air and disappear.

[ Lucy quickly shook her head with a smile to reassure him. Hee, Lots of rest. There's an understatement! ]

I'm just a little tired, it's all right. Let's... get this message out.

[ She straightened, taking a breath. Phew - okay! She'll just get some rest when she gets back to the inn. ]

[Natsu frowned and looked to the spirits but they were gone before he could voice any of hte thoughts running in his mind. Lucy looked more than tired...But she seemed adamant on carrying out her duty to the end. So he stayed near her ready to catch Lucy if she started slumping.]
