OPEN LOG; EVERGLADE, GENESSIA - do not reply until you read the ooc post

The first sign that something was going on that day hadn't been at the crack. It hadn't even been in Genessia, as a matter of fact. The first sign had been a sound not unlike a window shuddering in a heavy storm. It perforated the atmosphere within Everglade first.

Only a few moments later, Fayren would hear the same shudder echo through its forests, forcing birds to flee the cover of the trees. In the populated areas of the kingdom itself, it would be much quieter, as if it were miles away.

Then it would return to Genessia. The crack in the sky was rapidly saturated, thousands more than before forcing their whole shapeless bodies against the barrier. Some of the strange aurora-tinted color seems to press into their ranks, a few of the strange creatures being forced back, but quickly being replaced by another of its kind.

And a sickening crack could be heard in all archways near and far, but it was loudest in Everglade, where a new crack had formed. Two humongous cracks appeared in Everglade's barrier like a sinister grin as if it were laughing at the town just above the clocktower. The two cracks took only a couple of seconds more before the strange monstrous creatures burst small holes into that crack, not big enough to fit their bodies through at once.

The leaked through, dripping like poison from an apple out of that sneering mouth in the sky until the first of these creatures fell to the ground. The eager, hungry soul from before, whose abyss of a stomach had been shared with the whole of Genessia when he'd opened his misshapen jaw the first time a few days ago now looked from side to side in the streets of Everglade.

The first face he saw was that of an NPC, and he only saw it for a moment before launching himself at the man and pinning him to the ground. Some would recognize him as the grizzled owner of The Rabbit's Foot. A loud scream was put out from the man as the creature opened its jaw wide, but did not eat him. Nothing seemed to happen when his jaw was opened, as a matter of fact.

The creature closed its mouth slowly before standing upright on what seemed to be a two-legged form, though if it had arms they didn't take shape. It made a gesture as if it were cracking its neck as the man escaped quickly, locking the door to his shop behind him.

More of the creatures were piling into Everglade slowly but surely, but this one in particular caught sight of a local werewolf, someone with a pendant, a soul, and repeated his mauling, but this time- this time something happened. This time a strange, glowing mist seemed to pull out of the Everglade resident's body, a faint glimmer of aurora with it, and in a short time this person stopped screaming. They were still alive, but it didn't seem like there was anything... inside, really.

A hissing, victorious laughter left the creature and he moved on, heading toward Genessia's gate along with his oversized mouth pulled up into an eerie grin that reflected the crack in the sky. Those that had made it in through Everglade's crack followed suit.

They had to let the rest of their friends in through Genessia; it was only the polite thing to do.

... Good to know, but that indicates the limit is "how far you push yourself before you tire out."

[As the last couple spirits of the immediate area are driven away, Pidonus stops playing, pulling out a waterskin from her pack and drinking quickly.]

I've no idea what your endurance is like, though, so maybe that won't be a problem for a while. Still, need some water?

[ Vivio nods, taking a few deep breaths, though... she's not completely exhausted just yet. But it really was only a matter of time, wasn't it. ]

Yeah. Water would be really good right now...

[Pidonus walks towards Vivio and hands her the waterskin. Inside is... Well, just water.]

If we've bought some innocents some time...

[ Vivio takes it, muttering out a mumbled thanks before she finally starts to drink it. She hadn't even been thinking of the possibility of it being anything but water, so why even hesitate about it? ]

Yeah. That's... that's all that matters.

[ Huh. Apparently her limits were a little closer than she thought they were. ]

... Do we need to get out of here to safety? You aren't looking your best...

[ Vivio frowned, taking a few moments to answer before she finally nodded. ]

Yeah. I... I think so. I'm not really used to a prolonged fight like this. Not when it's... real.

Sparring and competition are very different from this. Let's get moving, quickly.

[Pidonus... Seriously considers, for a second, pulling out one of her heavier tricks. Instead, though...]

No likely safe places in Everglade or Genessia. We'll need to get to Nova. Game to run it?

Yeah. I should still be able to do that much...

[ And hey, at least Nova was home. As far as this world was concerned, anyway... ]

Then nice and quick, then. I'll keep with you, in case we have to fight more on the way to safety.

[Pidonus points towards the Archway to Genessia.]

[ Vivio nods, looking over at the archway towards Nova. ]

Okay. Let's not waste any time...

[ And with that said, she starts to run towards it, keeping an eye out for more of the spirits but hoping that they don't show up. ]

[Pidonus isn't as fast as Vivio directly... But she uses teleports to keep up as she eyes around.]

Just gotta keep moving. The spirits are slower to jump the mobile...

[ Who cares if it was directly? What was important was that Pid was keeping up and...

Vivio stopped after a moment as one of the spirits decided it would be a good idea to jump right in front of her, and she thrust her arm forward to punch it and hopefully take care of it. She... couldn't really afford another long fight right now. ]

[This time, as the creature doesn't quite get dropped, Pidonus leaps in, drawing her sword and taking a precise swing to knock it clear!]

Keep moving!

[ Vivio does as she's told, but... she's still going to try to form a blast to help out even as she's running past it. ]

[And another teleport to catch up!]

[ Okay, okay, good. That's good. Vivio lets out a small sigh though, turning back towards where she needed to go and trying to run faster. But she was a bit too tired to use the Jet Step right now. Hopefully it won't take too much longer to make it to that archway. ]

[Indeed, after a minute or so, it was right there.]

Just keep going. Still have to make it to Nova or someplace!

[ Vivio nodded, not saying anything as she saw it right there, willing herself to move faster and trying to pull off another Jet Step.

She blinked, moving quickly until she basically fell into the archway, finally falling hands first in Nova City and reverting back to her normal form. ]

I... really need to train harder...

Endurance isn't the easiest thing to build up.

We should get you to your home, though.

[Pidonus has put her instrument away long before, and walks up towards Vivio, passing her the water bottle.]

Better to collapse on your bed, right?

[ Vivio nods, grabbing the water bottle and taking a pretty large drink of it. Sorry Pid. ]

Yeah. I... I guess that's a good idea. Bed's definitely better than the ground.

[ Now all she needed to do was get up. It'll happen eventually. ]

[Pidonus offers Vivio a hand.]

You did well.... But this is a very different sort of combat. You need your rest, even if you didn't take too man hits.

[ And she's going to take it to get to her feet, though she wobbles a bit unsteadily at first. Looks like all the adrenaline from the fight has completely wore off. ]

... Yeah. I know. Doesn't really make it seem any better though. [ Especially since Nanoha-mama and Fate-mama both were able to last a lot longer than this when they were her age. ]

It's about what you're adjusted to, in the end. A competition artist needs different skills than a battlefield warrior, usually...

Yeah... I know. And a close range fighter also needs different skills than someone who shoots blasting spells from across the battlefield too.

I just... didn't think I'd need to learn how to fight like this before now.

... I've fought like this a lot, back home. But that's an aside.
