OPEN LOG; EVERGLADE, GENESSIA - do not reply until you read the ooc post
The first sign that something was going on that day hadn't been at the crack. It hadn't even been in Genessia, as a matter of fact. The first sign had been a sound not unlike a window shuddering in a heavy storm. It perforated the atmosphere within Everglade first.
Only a few moments later, Fayren would hear the same shudder echo through its forests, forcing birds to flee the cover of the trees. In the populated areas of the kingdom itself, it would be much quieter, as if it were miles away.
Then it would return to Genessia. The crack in the sky was rapidly saturated, thousands more than before forcing their whole shapeless bodies against the barrier. Some of the strange aurora-tinted color seems to press into their ranks, a few of the strange creatures being forced back, but quickly being replaced by another of its kind.
And a sickening crack could be heard in all archways near and far, but it was loudest in Everglade, where a new crack had formed. Two humongous cracks appeared in Everglade's barrier like a sinister grin as if it were laughing at the town just above the clocktower. The two cracks took only a couple of seconds more before the strange monstrous creatures burst small holes into that crack, not big enough to fit their bodies through at once.
The leaked through, dripping like poison from an apple out of that sneering mouth in the sky until the first of these creatures fell to the ground. The eager, hungry soul from before, whose abyss of a stomach had been shared with the whole of Genessia when he'd opened his misshapen jaw the first time a few days ago now looked from side to side in the streets of Everglade.
The first face he saw was that of an NPC, and he only saw it for a moment before launching himself at the man and pinning him to the ground. Some would recognize him as the grizzled owner of The Rabbit's Foot. A loud scream was put out from the man as the creature opened its jaw wide, but did not eat him. Nothing seemed to happen when his jaw was opened, as a matter of fact.
The creature closed its mouth slowly before standing upright on what seemed to be a two-legged form, though if it had arms they didn't take shape. It made a gesture as if it were cracking its neck as the man escaped quickly, locking the door to his shop behind him.
More of the creatures were piling into Everglade slowly but surely, but this one in particular caught sight of a local werewolf, someone with a pendant, a soul, and repeated his mauling, but this time- this time something happened. This time a strange, glowing mist seemed to pull out of the Everglade resident's body, a faint glimmer of aurora with it, and in a short time this person stopped screaming. They were still alive, but it didn't seem like there was anything... inside, really.
A hissing, victorious laughter left the creature and he moved on, heading toward Genessia's gate along with his oversized mouth pulled up into an eerie grin that reflected the crack in the sky. Those that had made it in through Everglade's crack followed suit.
They had to let the rest of their friends in through Genessia; it was only the polite thing to do.

Well, I'm not changing my mind either so you're gonna have to force me if you want me to go.
[Her posture is as casual as ever, but her grip tightens on her shotstaff.]
Go ahead and try if you wanna. I used to be curious about your powers anyway.
no subject
Very well. A fight it is, then.
[OOC: Permission for Pidonus to try some of her enchantment spells on Pascal a little further in?]
no subject
Huh. That's your weapon? I expected something more refined than just whacking me upside the head.
[OOC: Have at it!]
no subject
[And Pidonus rushes right on in, figuring that Pascal's weapon was likely to provide ranged effects. Keeping her from making good use of those would be the best aid to victory she could imagine, right now at least.]
no subject
[Despite being drained of emotions, Pascal is energetic as always. She hops out of the way and fires a token blast from her shotstaff. Even if she can't connect, it should at least give her time to get a bit more distance between them again so she can start casting.]
no subject
Girl's gotta be serious sometimes.
no subject
You are seriously inhuman, huh?
[She finishes the spell and a wall of flame springs up around her.]
no subject
... But she'll have to try another trick to get her, of that she's certain.]
Yup. You sure you want to keep fighting?
no subject
As long as you're making me leave? Yup.

[Ok, count that as one more thing she didn't expect. She could try and break it, but why bother? This keeps Pidonus just as stuck as Pascal. As long as they're both stuck it'll be a battle of magic, so she starts casting a tri-color shield-- it's a reasonably short spell, and it should handle this situation much more effectively than brute force.]
no subject
So, she suddenly moves to kiss Pascal, square on the lips, since Pascal's trying to cast something instead of break the grip - thankfully. To Pascal, unless she escaped this, two things would happen: She'd feel a lot more tired, and a good sensation that may or may not be suppressed by the spirit's influence over her might make her suddenly feel really interested in receiving another kiss from Pidonus.]
Almost forgot about this, sorry!
She's too taken aback to break it off immediately. She's not an expert on kissing. Last time she tried it, she was 10 and liked to kiss the boys on the cheek because it grossed them out. Still, she's pretty sure it's not normal to break up a fight by kissing your opponent.
By the time she recovers from the shock, she's not sure if she wants to break it off. She can tell that something is up because it feels like she's had the wind knocked out of her, and her legs are all shaky. That's the kind of thing poets talk about in love poems. Granted, they don't talk about the sudden urge to curl up and take a nap, so this is super suspicious. She hesitates, brow furrowed as she looks Pidonus up and down, but she doesn't pull away.]
That's a pretty weird way to persuade me, y'know?
[At the same time, it's... interesting. For the first time since the ghosts, she really wants something. It's just a candle compared to the burning curiosity that she remembers, but the desire is there. Even if Pidonus is doing something tricky to try and get her out of here, who cares? This is the best lead Pascal has found so far. She'd be an idiot not to follow it.]
I don't think it quite worked. Maybe you should try it again.
Re: Almost forgot about this, sorry!
The ghosts are coming back soon, so I need to bring you someplace safe first, okay? Just follow me.
[If this spell worked, Pascal would have a really hard time disagreeing with Pidonus' logic, even as she started, tentatively, off towards the gate back to Genessia. She had an idea... Maybe.]
no subject
This is some kinda trick, right?
[She gnaws on her bottom lip, eyeing Pidonus. She's in the strange position of knowing she's being tricked, but wanting to go along with it anyway. She'd usually go with her gut in this kind of dilemma, but when her emotions are suppressed it's easier for her analytical side to take over.]
I'll follow you, but you've gotta tell me what you did.
no subject
Right now, you're under a much nastier effect that's causing you to act violently and without regard to your safety. Intellectually, you're completely aware that's wrong. So when I suddenly first induce some emotions to destabilize that influence, and then use the magic, your own intellect guides you to go along with what I say.
[Pidonus, of course, was hiding some details - it didn't need to sound that reasonable to work! - but that was the front of it. Or that she had much more powerful and darker magics. Or that the pleasurable influence of the kiss and intellectual influence of the words actually came from the same inherent ability. Or...]
Getting you to safety comes first. Then comes trying to get your mind back to its usual state.
no subject
[That satisfies her enough to keep walking, though she's still uncharacteristically quiet as she works through the implications. If she was the suspicious type, she'd wonder if Pidonus used that emotional influence to make herself more likable on a day to day basis. She would be pretty disappointed if she only thought Pidonus was her best friend because of some kinda succubus juju. But she's not the suspicious type, right? Besides, if it was all just magic then Pidonus wouldn't be trying to hard to fix her.]
So... the whole kissy thing and all that tingly feeling was just part of the magic?
no subject
The only reason I'm being so open about this is to keep your intellect occupied, so that you keep following even when a different force would compel you to stay normally. And no, I didn't use my powers on you before now. I... Had a lot of experiences that taught me not to rely on my charms where just befriending people genuinely's what I should be doing.
no subject
Besides, I could always give you the slip and come back here if I change my mind.
[Maybe she shouldn't say that in front of Pidonus, but subtlety and subterfuge are not Pascal's strong suit.]
no subject
[Oh, hey, the Archway to Genessia! Pidonus motions Pascal right through.]
As for changing your mind, you'd need to break the influence first. That'd happen immediately if I confirmed that we were safe - we're nowhere close, by the way - or something happened that seriously changed the circumstance. Suffice it to say, I've looked into the limits of this power. It only works if it sounds reasonable enough that your mind's willing to just go with it, and then, only as long as it takes to fulfill the suggestion. Or like three weeks.
I have a separate ability that simply convinces someone, against their natural logic, that I'm their friend. That's also got limits, though. It still can't get you to act against your nature, and too much intellectual thread-pulling works on it too. It's harder to break if I'm, you know, actually friendly and you don't have standing reason to hate me. I'm avoiding using it now because this force has influenced your emotions, so piling more influences there kind of seems like a bad idea.
no subject
Yeah, I figured you didn't magic friendship into me or whatever. You act way too much like a mom to be just using me for your own devious purposes. Besides... I trust you.
[She winks and steps through the portal. When Pidonus joins her on the other side she tilts her head and amends the statement.]
....Or y'know, I did when I felt stuff like trust.
no subject
[Pidonus just kind of keeps moving. There's still potentially spirits here, but she figures the bay might be a safe stop on the way, so she's moving down the main road towards that.]
... And, yes, I really am worried about you massively right now, more than anything. I really don't know how to do proper ulterior motives nowadays anyways.
no subject
[It's a casual observation, not an accusation.]
Where are you taking me anyway?
(no subject)
