[1st Soul] // [video/action]
[Maka understands perfectly what she just read. She made sure to read it over and over again at varying speeds to take it all in, like a good student would.
It's just difficult for her to accept. The strange and mystical feeling of the world doesn't sit well with her, can she be certain she didn't just drop into the Witch world inexplicably? Well...maybe the Witches wouldn't be unkind to her, now that they've made peace anyway. But she doesn't feel comfortable without Soul around.
So when the video turns on, there's a teenage girl seeming totally marveled by the level of technology just the communicator shows. ...Then she realizes it's turned on and clears her throat.]
Hello. Maka Albarn, Demon Scythe Meister here...where is Death City? Or Ki--I mean Lord Death?
[That's still so weird for her, Kid's the new Lord Death? Wild.]
...And what's a--?
[Love potion, the word she was going for was love potion, but a shout interrupts her and another person appears on the screen. This time it's a boy with golden eyes and curious white stripes encircling his black hair. He might have been running but doesn't seem out of breath as he checks over Maka with a fussing worry that only someone really obsessive would have.]
Maka, are you all right? Have you seen Soul anywhere? I can't find Liz and Patti myself--oh, your pigtails are crooked!
[The boy immediately gets to work with untying and fixing the girl's pigtails while she stares at him. Finally she sighs, leaving Kid to his grooming (he's only doing it because he's worried and needs something to work on), and shifts her gaze to the camera.]
If anybody from the Academy could report in, we'd appreciate it.
[If anybody comes across them anywhere, Maka will still be sitting patiently, waiting for Kid to finish the fixing. Kid on the meanwhile will be piling questions on her about who what where and why.]
((ooc: Replies may come from both Maka and Kid!))

{ A phrase he hasn't heard before. He was about to answer her other questions, but that term definitely sticks out to him, and he'd like to ask about that, first. }
[ audio ]
[He pulled a little too much, but it's okay, Maka will continue.]
--Wait, you wouldn't know that Kid is Lord Death, would you? [Siiiigh.] Well, a Demon Weapon--in my case, a scythe--is a human with the ability to change their shape into the form of a weapon. Meisters, like me and Kid, are people that can wield them.
[ audio ]
{ It sounded similar to Take-Over magic, only he's never heard of a form of Take-Over that turned someone into an otherwise inanimate object that can be used as a weapon. And magic that required more than one person to even work was usually very rare, very powerful, and very difficult to pull off. }
Where did the term 'Lord Death' come from? I've not heard of any 'Kid,' so no, I wouldn't know that.
{ It doesn't sound pleasant. }
[ audio ]
And he's just...Lord Death. The God of Death, our ruler.

[Hello. Meet the resident jackass... with a single red eye... and scars that make his face look slightly lopsided.]

How dare you. Death City is perfect-- [He pauses a moment:] Although, I suppose it might have been a little better had it been exactly eight letters...
[But his exalted father chose that name, so it's good enough!]
...And do something about your appearance. Have a little decency.

I don't take orders from some idiotic brat like you.

Sir, there's a city in our country called "Boring."
[Maka, what.]
And even so, it was named after Lord Death, our leader, since he created the city. If you haven't heard about it, I'm sorry for wasting your time with questioning you about it, but please don't insult Kid's father.

Cocking his head to the side, the teenager listens for just a moment, before smirking...just slightly.]
Guessing you're both new, as well...
[It's really more of a quiet observation, than a conversation starter. After saying that, he's going to be glancing to the side, his expression going back to neutral. Seriously, though, how many where they going to get, in such a short period of time...? Val's been quietly watching the network, since his arrival. Being that he doesn't have anybody he misses, it's more for the sake of keeping tabs on the place, than...actually expressing interest in people from his world.
A persistent mental nudge had him putting effort into keeping that calm expression, in spite of the strength within that second spirit. Kai, not being the purest of beings...isn't always nice, when experiencing boredom.
Eh, he could be dealing with a much more terrible situation.]
[action]
Is there someone out there who isn't already an acquaintance of Kid's, who is willing to tolerate his eccentricities?
THAT POOR SOUL.]
Precisely and exactly. [A perfunctory nod.] It is fortunate there was someone selling shoes and socks on the way here. No one should have to suffer being damp on only one end of their body. Don't you agree--
[Oh, right.
There's one unfortunate thing unique to Val while engaging in conversations with the newly full-fledged god. He has the most unsettling tendency to stare at the subject of his attention, unblinkingly, for lengthy periods of time.]
I don't believe I caught your name.
Do we denote this as video? It's video
Maka? Kid?
[It takes him a second, but Spirit angles the device further from his face, clearly trying to get his eyes to adjust with a small frown. He must be getting old.]
Lord Death, I mean. Sir. Sorry..
[Blame it on the headache or the sleep fogging his head, he supposed.]
video;
It's quite alright, I've made the proper adjustments.
[As if Maka's pigtails being a little askew was a crisis that needed to be averted. Fully-realized as a god or not, some things simply end up fallen back on -- including his neuroses -- when under duress.]
video
Don't yell that at your boss. Don't do it. Don't do it. Spirit visibly swallows, tense, though it is completely unrelated to their overall situation.]
Where are you? You shouldn't be alone.
[There is warning in his voice because it was irrelevant that Kid was now Lord Death, that Maka was a gifted meister. First and foremost, he could not and would not leave his baby girl alone in a dangerous situation. He couldn't. But that aside, he had a duty to maintain as well: he was Lord Death's weapon, and that meant he was supposed to be there, even if the current Lord Death would never use him as such.]
video
[Perhaps not never. Death the Kid had a remarkable ability to synchronize readily with a Weapon, but he might have a hell of a time reconciling the distinctly lopsided manner of fighting it requires with his personal aesthetic.
Collapsing into a fit of self-loathing may well be a thing of the past, but don't put it past him when he's already stressed out.]
However, seeing as we've arrived at roughly the same time, if you leave the cave you should come upon us in the city in short order.
[He taps Maka on the back of her head.]
That's alright with you, I assume.

[But he had spent long enough sitting around alone with his thoughts, so he went back to what was customary for him in a new area...he listened, and watched. Studied people and looked for any signs of disturbing behavior.]
[These two didn't give off any negative signs. Fear, worry, lost...but they had each other at least. They'll be okay. Quinn turns on the video feed and on the camera comes a rather strange fellow with straight perfectly groomed blonde hair and the brightest green eyes you would ever find that seemed to glow.]
Well I do hope more of your company arrives, but I wouldn't stake a golden socket on it.
[He focuses on the strangely haired child for a moment.]
....I would be more concerned bout yourself. It's hard to notice, but on the right side there are three hairs misplaced, I'm assuming the culprit was that pod over there that we all arrived in. You both must be in a shock.
[Yeah he caught onto you already Kid. His eyes are extremely keen and he understands you. Each of his 16 piercings where perfectly symmetrical and his attire didn't have a single crease. The room behind him was perfectly spotless.]
Other than that you look right cracking.

The sight is momentarily obliterated when Kid shuts his eyes with a mild furrowing of his eyebrows at the mention of his hair.
The new experience called 'loss' with the passing of his father's torch into his own hands, the great responsibility of taking up the mantle of Lord Death, the disorientation of being thrust into a world unrecognizable and unknown, of being divested of the very people he was born to eventually protect--
All these, Kid has been juggling so far with some success. But it does make managing his neuroses a greater challenge. He refuses to backslide, not when there's been so much progress... and then his hands are moving up to fuss with his own hair.]
Do excuse me. [To be judged so by someone with such an impeccably coiffed appearance... how mortifying!]
Where is this region's leader? I must discuss with him or her this mistake immediately--
Ah, as soon as I make myself presentable.

[Says the poor girl that fell victim to her friend's obsessions, sighing in a "I am so done with this" manner.]
Didn't you read the letter, Kid? We've been brought here for some purpose, but nobody knows what it is yet. And the person that wrote it doesn't "do love potions," whatever that means.

video;
Hm! Those names are pretty interesting. What sort of place is Death City?
video;
[Really, she's the one asking questions, she didn't expect to be asked any herself.]
A city that's small but big at the same time...cluttered architecture, old in some places and new in others...very hilly--it's practically built on top of itself. It's out in the desert, too, but Lord Death kept the atmosphere very comfortable with his soul. The Academy is the biggest building of all, you can usually see it right at the top of the city--big candles and a giant skull on it.
video;
He was able to keep it calm with his soul? Did he have powerful spiritual pressure?
video;
[Maka please.]
He had a really big soul, big and powerful. He could manipulate his wavelength however he wanted, although...I never got to see him doing that, since he was using it to keep Asura inside a seal.
