GENESSIA PROM!

I - SETUP (12:00pm-5:00pm)

For any and all who agreed to help with the decorations, this would be the time to gather at the Hotel. A large list of assignments will be posted on the wall near the entrance, with duties including but not limited to:

1. Setting Tables, including placement of centerpieces
2. Wall and ceiling decorations, involving a lot of gossamer drapery and lights
3. Preparing the buffet table, with a mixture of hot and cold foods, as well as a separate table at the end for delectable deserts
4. Getting all necessary equipment on stage for the Live Band to perform. Sound Checks may occur throughout.
5. A side dressing room area set up exclusively for those who volunteered to take the time to get ready themselves, including special hair and makeup stations and a large rack to hang their dresses & shoes to change into later

II - HOTEL LOBBY (6:30pm onward)

Cozy and luxurious in its own right, those who arrive before Prom is scheduled to begin will be allowed to lounge in the Hotel Lobby for a spell. Meeting and greeting other early birds and partaking in a select few hors d'oeuvre made available while waiting for the doors to open

III. - PROM PHOTOS!

In the far corner of the lobby, a cute backdrop will be set up, ready for any and all couples/groups/brave souls going stag for the evening to take a memorable photograph! Selfies are welcome throughout, but for those desiring a more professional setup, Hikari Yagami will be on hand for the first and last hours of the night for "official" Prom Photos.

IV - EATING/DRINKING

With a "bar" consisting of 90% nonalcoholic beverages--the remaining ten percent reserved for of age chaperones--and a buffet table spanning the length of the side wall, there will be no shortage of food options that night! Hot pasta dishes, cold sandwiches, fruits, vegetable platters, and a special end section devoted to some of the best sweets Genessia's bakeries have to offer!

Of course, what prom would be complete without the traditional Fruit Bowl Punch? Better get a sip in early, though...because some traditions never die, and it's not like those in charge can keep an eye on that bowl the entire night, can they?

V. - DANCE FLOOR

With a live band (Thank you, Professor!) ready to rock, you'll soon be dancing the night away, under ethereal decorations that will really make you feel like you're dancing among the stars!

In between sets, there will be a DJ spinning a mixture of slow dances, crowd favorites, and songs that'll really get the party rockin' (~~LMFAO style~~).

VI. - CHAPERONES

Because somebody's got to make sure the kids behave.

Hopefully actual adults who can behave themselves.

VII. - MINGLING/MISC.

What other shenanigans could the teens and tweens of Genessia possible get up to? The night is young, and so are they~

[Hikari was quite reserved by nature, and very rarely gave away her deeper thoughts and emotions though facial or body language alone. Even then, her posture seemed relaxed. Her eyes continued to scan the room with more curiosity or vicarious joy than any fear or hesitation. ]

Much better, now that everything seems to be going well.

[Indicating that, for a time, she wasn't sure that would be the case.]

Excellent. [he can't really tell if she's sincere or not. It seems so but from what he understands, her friend is gone. Mimi. His niece for a time. And even though he hasn't spoken with Amy much here, he still feels the emptiness of her leaving, again. Like the gap where a tooth used to be, right in the back and he can't stop examining it. She's better with Rory, of course she is. She always must be. But River is certainly isn't. Still things will move on as always they do]

It's a nice diversion. [he has to agree there] Is this what proms are generally like?

[From Hikari's perspective, Mimi's disappearance was...a little more complicated than that.]

[For one, she had the luxury of knowing the older girl would be there when she eventually returned to the Digital World as well. For another, the Chosen were somewhat used to being split up. By the Digital World itself, but also for the duration of time during which Mimi had lived on the other side of the (Real) World from them. It was how she knew such things--at least, for them--were never really permanent.]

[She still missed her friend, of course, but she was far from emotionally compromised ~~again~~.]

I don't know.

I've never been to a Prom before. We never had them in Odaiba.

[nothing will be the same for him when he returns, but nothing ever is. That's just the nature of it. And the only one who can truly understand that has malice in her hearts.... Or so he keeps reminding himself, but he wants to believe that less and less.]

It seems like it. The decorations. The dancing. Now all you have to do I think is to have the odd girl or boy picked as King or Queen and you'll have it made.

[he might have skimmed a book or two]

...King or Queen?

[Her brows rose in honest surprise. Why was this the first time she was hearing something like this? Or had Mimi mentioned it in one of her many talks about what Prom was all about, and it slipped her mind because there had been so many other things to consider.]

Oh you know, the two most "popular" kids hook up and let everyone know how popular they are and share a dance. [he considers this] Naturally this is a bit of an odd situation.

[She believed him, of course, but...that made the situation that much more awkward, as indicated by the slight shift in body weight as he spoke.]

That...might be something we skip tonight.

[Voting for the most popular of a large group sounded like an opportunity for so many things to go wrong. And besides that...]

Didn't we already do something like that not too long ago? I remember that woman over the network holding a poll voting for all sorts of different titles.

[How could she forget? She and Takeru had even placed, though they didn't win.]

I was teasing. [he smiles warmly]

Would you care for a dance? We could stick to the shadows if you lie. Or I could fetch you some pastries. [the food didn't look terrible anyway]

[The pastries options was certainly tempting. Enough that Hikari actually paused for the span of a few seconds. She loved her sweets...but she also did enjoy dancing, despite her preference to remain out of the main spotlight....]

I'd love to dance with you, Professor.

[So long as they weren't directly on the stage, she didn't see the harm in accepting.]

The pleasure is mine. [he gives an elegant bow then takes her hand, leading her at least away from the wall if not out of the shadows]

Thanks, by the way, for keeping this together.

[She crossed her legs beneath her and gave a shallow curtsy in turn, before straightening and allowing him to lead her to a more convenient area. Looking up at him as he spoke all the while.]

It would have felt wrong to let Mimi's hard work go to waste.

Besides...there were so many people who had been looking forward to it. I couldn't just sit by and let them be disappointed.

I'm glad I could help. [even if it was just the music] Tell me, have you ever given any thought to going on an adventure?

[What kind of adventure? ...would probably have been the first words on her lips, were it not for a somewhat coincidental, though no less amusing, though:]

Plenty.

You could say I've been going on adventures since I was four years old.

Do you enjoy them? [he gives her a little spin just for fun]

[She followed through with the spin, which might almost be enough to conceal the slight falter in her expression at his question.]

Sometimes.

And sometimes not so much. [he doesn't really need to have seen the expression to know the answer] They can take a lot out of you... Especially when you're y[young] inexperienced.

[There was a long, contemplative pause at that. Because she wanted to counter his statement--it was hard to consider herself inexperienced when she'd been fighting on and off for ten years. Almost for as long as she could remember. But she also knew better than to argue with an adult, who no doubt carried many times that.]

[Even if she only took into account his apparent physical age.]

I almost think...it was easier when we were younger. [A different counter, but as she spoke, she realized just how true the words felt to her. How often the sentiment had been echoed by each of the Chosen as of late, in their own words and actions.] I remember smiling a lot more, even through the times of sadness and fear. I even remember times when we all had fun together.

Now...it doesn't feel very fun anymore.

That can happen. [and experience is a tricky thing. The experience of a child and an adult are two different things, and she is somewhere in between]

It's like music. Music can be fun, thrilling, sad, dangerous even, but the best music is more than just a wall of noise. Silence is importance too. Rest... [he speaks casually, though watches her out of the corner of his eye.] Sometimes that silence is a prelude to another movement and sometimes it's the end of the song. And sometimes you need the quiet...

[which is not always fun and can be hard in its own way. He doesn't know whether he's telling her or sympathizing with her and decides to let her take from it whatever she wants, even if nothing at all]

[Hikari was the kind of girl who always took something away from another's words and actions. No matter how seemingly small or subjective.]

Sometimes. [She echoed the sentiment with a subtle nod, eyes still distant. It was unclear if she knew she was being watched, or if she was too lost in her own thoughts. Somehow, she still managed to keep tempo with the music and movement as she spoke.] The only problem with silence is that it never lasts. There's always more to come, and when things are too quiet...you have no idea what will be next.

[The future she would eventually return to would not be a happy one. She was certain of that much.]

[he feels that's largely a problem when kids adventure. Oh it seems like a blast on the outside and there are definitely many cherished memories. But those earliest sad times are hard to shake and traumas can last for years, especially with short human lives]

That's when you find someone you can rely on...who can perhaps stretch the silence a little longer...

[She smiled again, nodding her agreement.]

I guess I'm really lucky in that sense...because they're both here with me.

Good to know. [he wants to include himself in this because he can't help but be a little worried about her. But sometimes it's better to show it than say it-- and he knows he can be... distractable.

He distracts them both by turning them into the music, what's left of it. And when the dancing ends he bows in such a way that would make a 16th Century French Nobleman bite his monocle in half in a fit of jealousy and need.

Thank you for the dance, mademoiselle. It's been my honor.

[There was certainly no offense intended in not including the Professor. She considered him a friend, yes, and perhaps even someone she could rely on in a time of need.]

[...but old habits were hard to break, and she'd spent the large majority of her life looking to Taichi first. He was her big brother, her protector, and the person she loved most. Someone who, as long as he was with her, could keep her from feeling afraid. Someone who...if she were to ever lose for good...as experience taught...she would literally break.]

[And Takeru...was very quickly...not replacing Taichi, of course--no one would ever replace him--but finding his own place in her heart. Another protector. One who had been there for half her life. Watching over her in the moments when Taichi couldn't. The first face she'd come across upon her arrival in Genessia. Her best friend in just about any world they traveled to.]

The honor was all mine, Professor.

[Mind returning to the present, she stepped back just enough to give him a courtesy curtsy as the song and dance came to an end.]
