GENESSIA PROM!

I - SETUP (12:00pm-5:00pm)

For any and all who agreed to help with the decorations, this would be the time to gather at the Hotel. A large list of assignments will be posted on the wall near the entrance, with duties including but not limited to:

1. Setting Tables, including placement of centerpieces
2. Wall and ceiling decorations, involving a lot of
gossamer drapery and lights
3. Preparing the buffet table, with a mixture of hot and cold foods, as well as a separate table at the end for delectable deserts
4. Getting all necessary equipment on stage for the Live Band to perform.  Sound Checks may occur throughout.
5. A side dressing room area set up exclusively for those who volunteered to take the time to get ready themselves, including special hair and makeup stations and a large rack to hang their dresses & shoes to change into later

II - HOTEL LOBBY (6:30pm onward)

Cozy and luxurious in its own right, those who arrive before Prom is scheduled to begin will be allowed to lounge in the Hotel Lobby for a spell. Meeting and greeting other early birds and partaking in a select few hors d'oeuvre made available while waiting for the doors to open

III. - PROM PHOTOS!

In the far corner of the lobby, a cute backdrop will be set up, ready for any and all couples/groups/brave souls going stag for the evening to take a memorable photograph! Selfies are welcome throughout, but for those desiring a more professional setup, Hikari Yagami will be on hand for the first and last hours of the night for "official" Prom Photos.

Smile, everyone!

IV - EATING/DRINKING

With a "bar" consisting of 90% nonalcoholic beverages--the remaining ten percent reserved for of age chaperones--and a buffet table spanning the length of the side wall, there will be no shortage of food options that night!  Hot pasta dishes, cold sandwiches, fruits, vegetable platters, and a special end section devoted to some of the best sweets Genessia's bakeries have to offer!

Of course, what prom would be complete without the traditional Fruit Bowl Punch?  Better get a sip in early, though...because some traditions never die, and it's not like those in charge can keep an eye on that bowl the entire night, can they?

V. - DANCE FLOOR

With a live band (Thank you, Professor!) ready to rock, you'll soon be dancing the night away, under ethereal decorations that will really make you feel like you're dancing among the stars!

In between sets, there will be a DJ spinning a mixture of slow dances, crowd favorites, and songs that'll really get the party rockin'
(LMFAO style).

VI. - CHAPERONES

Because somebody's got to make sure the kids behave.

Hopefully actual adults who can behave themselves.

VII. - MINGLING/MISC.

What other shenanigans could the teens and tweens of Genessia possible get up to?  The night is young, and so are they~

True enough. [ This would be the first time since her arrival that someone she knew had just vanished. Returned home. It's a thought she had considered, but one she had admittedly tried to push aside. There was something worse about them just being gone as opposed to simply deciding not to come.

She takes a sip of her drink, nose scrunching slightly at the sweetness of it. Sweeter than she anticipated. ]
Disappointed though I may be, I never assumed it to be a slight. And truly, I am happy for him if he has returned home — so many do not wish to be trapped here as they are.

[ and she sounds genuine enough when she says it, shrugging as she looks to the dance floor. ] No need to dwell on matters that are beyond my control though. How long have you been in Genessia?

[At least the disappointing conversation was taken care of. It made Solas feel a little less uncomfortable. That quickly disappears at her next question, and he straightens a little.]

Not long, [he starts, frowning somewhat sourly.] an hour, or less. This just happened to be where most people were located. [He'd been stalking through the streets, bare feet and all just a little while before the party started, until he'd been directed here, where a good number of people in his predicament were congregated.]
invigorates: (Watch Dogs ruined a lot of things.)

[ his answer seems to surprise her, her eyes wide as she turns to look at him once more. ]

My, I cannot say my own arrival lead so quickly to such excitement. Are you - would you care to speak somewhere that is not so lively? I could answer any questions you may yet have.
notea: (pic#12318748)

[personal profile] notea 2018-05-29 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
No. [the answer is almost too quick. He has no real desire to fumble around the awkward question and answer -- especially as he's gotten just about all the answers he feels he could need, at least for now.]

Right now it is more informative to watch others. [sort of, at least. he considers again] But should you find the volume unacceptable I suppose we could find somewhere easier to talk.

[He DID have questions about her. Just not Genessia proper.]
invigorates: what with you being an incompetent sack of shit. (I didn't think you had it in you.)

[personal profile] invigorates 2018-05-29 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Well, that was unexpected. Lioriley looks only momentarily startled before she catches herself, shaking her head with a laugh. That is not the response often given - so many seek answers upon arrival, and most ask too many too quick for her to try and answer. ]

Sensitive they may be, my ears have suffered far worse than this. [ She smiles, takes another sip of her drink and then sets it aside for the time being. ] What is it you wish to talk about, then?

If you'll forgive me, I'm more curious about you. You look almost as though you would be quite at home where I'm from, with your markings. [a pause, brief in nature] But different altogether.

You're an elf, aren't you? Different from any I've seen before, despite the similarities I've mentioned. I can't help but be more curious about you and where you're from, since there was plenty of information at hand about our current situation.

[He's eager, but holding back. He hadn't meant to alarm her of course, and he offers a vague apologetic nod after he's managed to express where his curiosities lie.]

[ She laughs again. It always comes down to this, doesn't it? Not that she minds — and she surely cannot blame someone for being curious about a creature as apparently odd as she is. The lines across her cheek flicker slightly, glowing just a little brighter, like she might be mildly embarrassed. ]

An elf, of sorts. My people are called Lunari — we are creatures of magic created by the guardian Spirits of my world. The markings you speak of are something akin to veins - a means to channel magical energy through our bodies. [ She waves a finger pointedly in the air, letting wisps of blue flutter off her fingers to dissipate a few seconds later. ] From what I have read and heard of elves more common to other worlds, you fit the description quite well. I have a feeling you might be different, however. No book can pin down an entire race.
notea: (pic#12317449)

[personal profile] notea 2018-05-30 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
[It's not that she's odd, he's fascinated. Not to mention she's intelligent, from the way she speaks in such confidence.]

Impressive. [He straightens up a little as she speaks, is interest increasing. If only all creatures could be so in tune with the spirits. When she mentions him again, he tilts his head slightly a chuckle escaping.]

It's certainly possible, but you're right. No one book can do an entire race justice. I'm an elf, and a mage—an apostate to be exact, but the two are not mutually exclusive.
invigorates: (OH NO FRODO I FUCKED IT UP)

[personal profile] invigorates 2018-05-30 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
[ She cocks her head to the side, her expression mirroring the piqued interest in Solas' voice. She hasn't met many elves here so far - though she has been told a few times they are not but fiction in many worlds. ]

An apostate? Not a word I oft associate with mages, if I am being truthful. What sort of magic do you practice?
notea: (pic#12318751)

[personal profile] notea 2018-06-02 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Fortunate that you come from a world where it is not needed. [He waves a hand as if to dismiss that particular concern. They're not in Thedas, he's much less to worry about here. At least he assumes]

Something similar to you, I would hazard to guess, but there's a chance that like Elves, it's all very different. The magic I use all comes from the same place, in the end. Anyone could have the talent, but it all comes from the Fade, beyond the Veil that separates it from Thedas. I've yet to have the chance to see if I can travel into the fade here, if it even reaches this place.

[He pauses, realizing that he's gone off on a tangent. But he remains more animated than before, regardless.] With enough training, magic can take the shape of anything, fire, ice, electricity. It's why those who cannot harness its power fear it so.
invigorates: (what's it called? the hook--fuck it.)

[personal profile] invigorates 2018-06-02 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
[ She opens her mouth to say something, but silences herself when Solas dismisses it. Questions linger, unspoken for now but rest assured they may or may not come up again at a later date.

For now she remains quiet, listening intently to his explanation. She internally chastises herself for not bringing a notebook (how could she have known she would meet such interesting people at prom?) so she could write this down. Doubtful she'll forget at least, before she makes it home. ]

People fear what they do not understand - 'tis a trait I can safely say is shared among the varying worlds we hail from. [ People in Kilarria don't fear magic, but they certainly fear things they don't know or cannot control themselves. What a shame. ] How does one travel to the Fade?
notea: (pic#12318772)

[personal profile] notea 2018-06-02 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Dreams. Because of the veil, there's no easy way to travel there with your body, but by dreaming you can enter the fade and explore it to your hearts content. [e pauses, then continues with a warning.]

Carefully, mind you. There are many dangers in the fade, and it's not unusual for the unpracticed mage or otherwise to find their end. But there's also much to see and learn, should you be open to it. I've spent countless hours wandering, learning from spirits when I could.
invigorates: (You have to mash it to murder.)

[personal profile] invigorates 2018-06-02 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ Despite the warnings and the obvious indication of danger that lingers in the 'Fade', Lioriley seem absolutely enraptured by the idea of it. Lunari have little need for sleep save for a few - usually desperate - situations, so the idea of there being another realm in the unconscious is fascinating. ]

I would like to see it. [ She cants her head to the side, grinning. ] Should you try and find your way there, you should tell me how you fare.
notea: (pic#12318748)

[personal profile] notea 2018-06-02 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Would you? [There's surprise in his voice, and a level of respect as well. Despite the danger, she seems very unconcerned.]

If it is something you really want to experience I'll have to see if it is possible. I am worried that I might be entirely removed from it... [the thought is obviously upsetting.] I haven't yet had the opportunity to see. My ... priorities have obviously been elsewhere.
invigorates: (If you lube it; I will come.)

[personal profile] invigorates 2018-06-02 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
[ She nods. Why not? Dangerous or not, the chance to see something like that overrides any fear she may have.

Her smile fades just a little though at his worry that he might be removed from it. ]

Hopefully that is not the case. I know not how such things work in a realm like this, but with any luck there may yet be a connection to your Fade. [ She smiles again, reaching out to pat his hand lightly with one of her own. ] It sounds exciting, though. I would never wish to pass up such an opportunity.
notea: (pic#12318766)

[personal profile] notea 2018-06-02 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
[he hadn't expected her to touch him, and he almost draws his hand away. Except, in the last moment he takes his opportunity to take her by the hand to look at the softly glowing lines on her hand. He's STILL fascinated by this.]

These lines are still remarkable. The way they glow reminds me of lyrium, but it's altogether different...
invigorates: (Hey kids! Smoke crack!)

[personal profile] invigorates 2018-06-02 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
[ She probably should have asked, but old habits and all that. Thankfully, Solas seems fairly receptive of the contact — more receptive than even she anticipated. Save for the faint look of surprise however, she doesn't retract her hand.

If he touches any of the lines - and chances are he will, given how many curve around her fingers - there's a spark of energy, and a faint tingle against the skin. ]

Forgive me for asking so many questions, but now I am curious as to what Lyrium may be. A magical element where you are from?
notea: (pic#12317462)

[personal profile] notea 2018-06-02 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
[solas slightly approves.]

You don't need to apologize for seeking answers. In fact I find it quite admirable. [he hadn't expected th spark, but doesn't find it unordinary -- it makes sense, given what these lines are for her.]

Raw Lyrium is a mineral, a volatile one. It can cause those who come in contact with it to get quite sick, or even die. But refined, it can be quite useful, and can strengthen a mages' abilities, their connection to the fade.
invigorates: (what a fuckin' douchebag.)

[personal profile] invigorates 2018-06-02 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunate as it may be for some that we are here, I believe we should take advantage of the opportunity we have been given. It is not often we can learn such things from others from worlds that are not our own.

[ Not often as in NEVER. ]

I see. And is it required, or simply a benefit? [ a beat. ] Would you need it here, I mean.
notea: (pic#12318773)

[personal profile] notea 2018-06-03 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
No, and it more often than not turns into a detriment, putting mages in danger if they use too much. [he goes on for a moment about various side effects, conscious dreaming in the fade, death, all potentially terrible.]

And of course, there is Red Lyrium, but I am no expert on that. [a particular dwarf he knows, however, is.] But I am doing most of the talking. I apologize.
invigorates: (You have to mash it to murder.)

[personal profile] invigorates 2018-06-03 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
[ Her brows furrow slightly. She cannot say she is a fan of Lyrium and the side affects it can cause in mages. Solas hasn't even told her the fun part about Templars either. ]

Do not apologize, I am happy to listen. [ Her hand twitches, reflexively moving to dismiss his words with a wave when she realizes he's still holding onto it. Ah. ] You are free to ask questions of me, of course, should that help.
notea: (pic#12318763)

[personal profile] notea 2018-06-03 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
[a first. It's not unusual that he gets bored looks. And it's true, he's not even talked about the Bad Stuff.]

I'm curious about how your magic works, actually. Perhaps it is presumptious, but it must have something to do with these leylines, correct? I can feel the energy coming from them.

[it's fascinating, honestly. It must mean there are plenty of concequences to exhausting her magic, or benefits otherwise. So many questions. But for now, he's going to finally release her hand, mostly out of politeness.]
invigorates: (i hear flower crowns are popular rn)

[personal profile] invigorates 2018-06-03 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ Once released, she slowly eases her hand back, letting it settle in her lap with the other. She cants her head to the side, glancing off as she considers her answer. It's not a question she gets often, nor one she knows how to explain in words because, well, it's just kind of natural for her? Hard to explain something you've just known for six centuries. ]

You are correct. They act like ... conduits, I suppose, helping to channel our magic in different ways. It keeps us alive, for one, but when we craft spells we take some of that energy from inside of us and mold it as we see fit. Help from the elements makes the process less of a strain. Healing works a little differently — it is like giving a piece of ourselves to those that we heal.

We recover slowly, feeding from the Earth but never enough to disrupt the balance around us. Should we exert ourselves too much, we can rest or partake in food. Otherwise, we do not need much of either.
notea: (Default)

[personal profile] notea 2018-06-03 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Fascinating. I would be interested in seeing how you work your magic sometime.[to have a connection with ones magic like that, and the world around you... amazing.]

And what of the others from your world? Or is your race the only one that exists? [it would be less interesting if that were true, but on the other hand, it almost seems idyllic.]
invigorates: with this coconut! (I’m gonna fuck that bird)

[personal profile] invigorates 2018-06-03 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
I work at the hospital, should you ever wish to see me heal, at least. Aside from that, I am certain something could be arranged.

[ She chuckles, shaking her head. ] No, no. There are plenty of others. Humans, as there seem to be everywhere. They can learn magic, but only through intense lessons and their elder mages - nothing is inherent in them. The Solari, near polar opposites of my people, steal from living creatures to fuel their own abilities. [ She crinkles her nose, obviously not super into that aspect of their magic. ] Dragons, beasts of elements and Seers of the future.

[ She starts to ramble, and realizes halfway through explaining something that she's doing it. Her cheeks light up - literally. ] Oh, but now I am talking too much!
